A coworker keeps inviting me for after-work drinks with the “in-crowd.”
I don’t enjoy it, but I can tell it helps careers around here.
Do you play along, or stick to your boundaries?

If you're good at making connections elsewhere, networking online, are known as an expert by people outside of your company, and would easily land on your feet if you got laid off, then you can skip most of them.

If not, then you should go to as many of these as you can stand until you have solidified your reputation more widely. That way you are ensuring you won't be the first in life for layoffs while you work on being sure you are easily employable elsewhere should they throw you out like yesterday's garbage at some point. They all seem to do that no matter how good you are or hard you work.

That makes sense. I have been laid off in past, and especially the connections & my relations I built helped me get past that.

It doesn’t have to be either or, it could be some of the time. You also need to have boundaries and prioritize your personal life.

Hi all,
I graduated during Covid with a double major in business administration and business management with a minor in marketing and magically ended up in sales because I needed a job. I’m about to take a data analytics course to make an attempt to break into that field. I’m currently looking for a mentor to help guide me during this time. Also, if anyone is willing to look over my resume and give me tips on how to make it more presentable for recruiters in DA that would be very helpful. Thanks

I have 5 YOE in Analytics... always thought I wanted to be a DS, but every job (even the junior ones) required experience in ML development. Though I am part of the ML project, I'm not the person develop the model. And I have a hard time when the interviewer ask about how I develop the model and what hyperparameters I tuned. I know the thought process and stuff but 'I' wasn't the one who did that part in the project. How to convince them that I could do the job without taking credit of others.

I’ve got about 20 years cross channel experience in marketing, split between big brands and startups, and I’m considering pivoting into a data science/data analyst role. I know it will initially be a step back in comp but is it at all realistic for a person with certificate level experience in data analysis but a decent marketing management background to expect $150-200k comp or is that mostly for degreed candidates (or not realistic at all)? Any guidance here is greatly appreciated.
