A friend told me how their mentor used the holidays to encourage them to reflect on their career goals and even scheduled an informal coffee chat in the New Year. It wasn't about work it was about reconnecting and offering guidance.
Do you think the holidays are a good time to reconnect with professional mentors or friends? How do you approach it?

The holidays and end of year can be a good time to refocus and reconnect. While I would also point out the importance of non-work related topics, it can be a good time for both. It can be hard to find time period, so to approach, I’d just ask and see if it works for them, but also remember you don’t always have to wait for a specific time off to do so.

I think anytime can be appropriate to reconnect with your mentor as long as the timing works out for both of you.

That is actually a really good idea and i really like it. I think the holidays are a great time to reconnect with mentors and talk about your goals.

I’m an L&E associate entering my 5th year at a mid-sized regional law firm (approx. 400 attorneys). Barred in PA/NJ. Billed 2100 last year but my requirement is 1950. I seem to be doing a significant amount of municipal law too, which is not what I expected or wanted at all. I want a life but would also hate to take a pay cut. Interested in L&E. Advice?
