Be liked better. It’s not about performance.
It never was
It’s all who’s liked and who they like working with.
You should ask your peers for candid feedback, too. I have found more constructive feedback from those my level and below vs from those above me.
I feel that. When I was an SC, I kept getting feedback from my SM that I “needed to find my voice in the firm.”
They want you to own up to more avenues and enable them to save more $. One way to do is to be unnecessarily cynical on folks who already have satisfactory performance, because only they care about negative feedback and get impacted and be controlled. I would just play their game, by agreeing to what they said, and continue doing what you normally do but just update/highlight more through 1:1s.
This is a sad reality at many workplaces where you get gifted with more work if you actually perform well.
It means selling and having your own book of business
The response they gave you was crazy, lol. It's kinda a red flag that they didn't explain it any further. Putting back on my old big 4 hat, though, the thing of your own post here that gets me is that it reads as if you are thinking transactional or in terms of execution. "I'm delivering consistent results" sounds like you're still focused on project execution.
IME, the transition for leadership is a mindset shift away from project execution and even project management to building up your reputation as someone who influences strategic decisions. How to illustrate the difference? Someone who's more tactical might say, "we finished the project on time, on budget, and delivered all items in scope". But leadership is more like saying, "we set x transformation agenda with client leadership to align with their business priorities". It's the *why* of the project, the 30k foot level, if that makes any sense.
