Why are you saying this..Can you share your experience which leads to this?
Because I am quite happy in IT, i work according to me and have a good work life balance.
Why can't he say?. You are happy and he is not. He is just saying his opinion. Everyone has their own experience and all are equally right.

My 2 paisa, spent 13+ years in IT industry and currently in same age group for which author is worried (35+)
I think people who has joined IT industry after 2008-09 has not seen any real recession, and current situation is not of recession but companies try to take the cost measure for preparation of recession in case it comes.
IT industry of India is very good, we do have many options jobs and many companies which can offer good money at various experiences level. I have seen many average people in terms of coding or technical skill survive and thrive in Indian IT industry, people do have many options of becoming business analysts, product management roles, pre sales roles, licensing roles, quality engineering role, development and engineering roles, devops roles, managerial roles, sales roles, support roles, administrative roles, learning and training roles, system administrator roles, procurement roles, architectural positions role, network Specialist, financial and fintech SME roles, functional specialties roles and many others. Believe me guys no other industry pay 10-30 lakh money to 4-5 years of experience people unless until you are some rankers in those fields.
Many IT people doing their jobs from comfort of their home since covid times and many working in hybrid mode. Recently when I met few relatives at weddings, majority of them are from Non-IT backgrounds and have business backgrounds, they all were like ohhhh you are still working from home. For them it’s never going to possible. Believe me guys most of industry don’t have wfh or hybrid mode jobs.
Now coming to fear of losing job, do I have that fear after 13+ year of experience?? Yes I do.
Do I have confidence that if I will loss the job will I be able to get another job ? Yes 💯 %
Do I have skill which will allow me to continue with higher pay ?? Yes as of now.
If I am making higher pay, what I need to do to justify that pay ? Take more responsibility, know how to make things at scale, know the best practices of field, security fundamentals, performance critical problems and their solutions, latest technical paradigms and architectural patterns, agile practices, be humble and proactive, know how to communicate the right way which convey the message, learn to say NO when plate full with work without being rude, disrespectful and arrogant, learn to negotiate well when in good position of negotiation.
When one is 10-15+ years of experience they have learnt so many things at various stage, know how to sale those learning and lessons along with skills. Sometimes its very easy or simpler things but if we don’t know how to sale it to top people that I have these critical skills and and it will be useful to your organisation/project than its of no use.
Keep technical fundamental clear, in IT same old solutions get repackaged in new way and get sold as new thing. Few years back web pages used to serve from server side(php, jsp, asp. net), and then it got changed to SPA JS framework and now they are coming with SPA(react) + Server side rendering (next.js). Server less solutions being sold which needs real servers, desktop applications replaced with mobile applications, Monoliths get divided into microservices and server divided into docker and K8. Tomorrow something new will come which will repackaged or rebranded into something else to tackle some new problem. But fundamental remains the same.
Indian IT industry is $100 billion+ industry and majority of work comes from developed countries and big pie of work is done by IT companies. For normal people like us we don’t need those big clients, but there are so many small clients which need technical expertise, try to get 1-2 good clients and work for them on part time basis, even if you need to start from 10-15 dollar per hour do it, once you gain confident and have good numbers of client portfolios one can easily reach 30-60 dollar per hour rate along with existing job. This way one will become independent of jobs and can easily rely on multiple client for work. Some of my friends easily making 30-55 lakh in freelance work and they have left their main job and started doing this full time after sometime. When one have 4-5 good clients and they know they are not dependent on main job. I know people who are doing main job and some part time freelance work in their free time and making good money. Getting initial freelance work is not easy but once they get set it change the whole path. Try to be on those freelance or remote work platforms.
Finally, be confident, learn new skills and know how to sale the our learning, generate 2nd stream of income, save and invest well (our real income is Pay in hand - all expenses), learn how to say NO when loaded with more work, network well with various people, teach your juniors without bring jerk and behave well with others, sometimes people remember you for your good behaviour.
Best wishes.

It's all about personal preference. If everyone thinks job security and wish to work in a calm and low pressure environment, there won't be enough innovations happening around the world. Pvt sectors and govt sectors are kind of 2 faces of economy , the coexistence is important so as the participation. There is no point in igniting insecurity in others , let them choose what they like. Both sectors have their own pros and cons.

I can tell from my experience. I had worked for 2 years in IT and later on joined SBI as junior associate. However now I regret it as I got a rural posting and there is no learning scope. I now plan to do MBA and get back in a private job. Atleast I will love what I do.

Lmao, advise from a quitter, nonperforming frustrated looser who belongs among people who want to get paid while shitting on a chair
Don't be so rude

And I started from 6k now earning 30LPA in 5 year now just think and do calculation.
Invest MF, Gold, Bond, Property and invest in PPF for retirement you will get same benefits.
And if u thinking only for Samaj then Do whatever to foe Samaj. But remember No one care
I passed out as Mechanical engineer but IT field accepted it here no one care your qualifications only knowledge matter but in other fields degree matter
Great !
If you don't mind, could you please share your savings/investment detail as well. Like how much you have saved so far.
No offense, but many people like me became engineer to work as an engineer and not to work like any random graduate in any random organization just for the sake of govt job.
I use the same lines as an excuse, because we all know there are lot of govt jobs which require CS engineers.
Cleared SSC CGL after getting into an IIM.
By the time joining date came, final placements were done. Been 4 years.. It's been challenging but rewarding. Can't say the same for if I'd taken the govt job.
Also, 800-1000 openings for 30-40L candidates.. Don't say it's easy
If you are okay with low salary (~govt job salary) then you can find the stable job in it sector itself. But if you are looking for earning 3-4 lac then things may be different. Stability directly relates to your salary and company. Even in the worst situation, if you get laid off, then there are many companies to keep you if you have the right skills, 99% chance is that you will get the job within same month if you are not looking for hike
Pros of it company: Better salary, Opportunity to travel different places, Better Working Environment and better colleagues than coward govt employees, Flexibility to change, even better facilities in some cases, Remote jobs as well
Pros of Govt Job:
Job security, wlb (one can find the same in IT sector with same salary e.g TCS, Infy)
Cons:
Pathetic work environment
Strict rules in many dept.
Job bonds, no Flexibility to change
The main point is that if you are able to accumulate good money till your 40s then you are done. Invest that in right place to have good passive income and live the rest of the life peacefully and while in it jobs you continuously enhance your skills that can help you to make secondary income (freelancing, business ideas)
Bhai na to sabko sarkari naukri krni,

10. At the end, it's just a job and only thing that attracts people in this, is big house, security, car etc but all these won't be there in Central Postings.

When I was 22, I started preparing for SSC CGL along my IT job at Infosys (earning 27kpm). Covid came, wfh started, I was bench, had ample time, and gave everything for my preparation for SSC CGL. The exam never happened.
After being on bench for 11 months, I was finally aligned to a salesforce project. I started upskilling myself and then applied for a job elsewhere. Got 175% hike.
After working in that organization for 11 months and earning 11lpa, I started applying elsewhere, and guess what I got hired by Salesforce itself as Technical Consultant at 21lpa. All this happened before my 26!!
All I can say is, don't give useless advice. The entirety of IT is not ruthless but the scope of government jobs is definitely pathetic.

Posts in cgl don't have any political answerability.they earn a decent amount of money.jobs are totally recession free.what is the point of high ctc if you can't sustain with this big fat paycheck.
Only if you managed to get a degree from premier engg or mba colleges or completed masters in math, stat or economics from reputed colleges then you can enjoy some kind of royal life in pvt sector.otherwise you have fear of job loss in every stages.
Only problem is good posts in govt jobs are not for unreserved people.on top of that cancelation of exams, less no of seats and unwilling Ness of govt to create more jobs in this space which became more prevalent after 2016.
Plan toh sahi hai but I am general
Backup plan leke prepare karo.
If you're serious about your work in IT sector within 15 years of your job you can accumulate 2-3 crore of wealth may be through onsite or product based company. You'll be around 37-38 years old by then now you look to settle down with many things including freelancing, business or relatively lesser paying jobs within corporate that are stable. Even most states pcs jobs like UPPCS has age criteria till 40 for general category
Whatever...make a decision which makes you happy.!

General valo ko jhat kuch nhi milega preparation mein bohut time nikal jayega
Don't generalise anything if you are frustrated with your job. Every job, especially to be an engineer you need to have the real passion towards it. Don't work just for money and comfort.
dude, if everyone leaves do you really think everyone will be employed by state/central govt??
check reality please.
the whole of this world is being run by/on IT. this fishbowl where you have posted is not run by govt...
