I’m about to start an internship at IBM for UX Research. I’m super excited about it, and was wondering if anyone could tell me about the design culture there or how the company is for designers? So far online I’ve only heard about the company from consultants or software engineers. For more reference I’ll be working in Austin.

Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.

^^ whenever people say that I’m like how much worse can it get?
Insane hours
1. Know their leadership principles in and out. Have stories for each of them.
2. Obviously have good reasons for why Amazon and why that team, etc
3. For cases, always start with the customer
Holy cow SM1 i thought you were joking, but then some quick googling found: http://www.businessinsider.com/jeff-bezos-email-against-powerpoint-presentations-2015-7
It actually sounds like a pretty interesting idea. I feel like a large reason meetings can be so unproductive is because everyone is constantly talking and you can barely think without missing whatever is being said. Walking out of meetings with "Oh shit, we forgot to talk about X" is way too common, even if you take time out to carefully prepare an agenda.
Culture is insane. They say that consulting looks easy
Sont go by hearsay. Get feedback from people who ACTUALLY work there OP
Heard Amazon does papers in Word for meetings instead of decks in PPT. Then at the beginning of the meeting, everyone spends the first 10 mins or so reading the paper.
I heard that if you’re working 40 hours be prepared to get fired
Culture is quite intense and they don’t have the same benefits other tech companies do. My sister works there
What about Microsoft culture?
Never realized how bad Amazon was until FB. Is it the case at all levels?
I hated the experience. They wasted my time and could have asked some additional questions to rule me out before spending the day there in a dehumanzing interview process... Good luck.
Have a ton of friends who work there; your experience is 100% dependent on what team you join. I've heard some pretty awful stories..
This is all really inspiring...
