After especially intense weeks, I don’t feel relieved. Good I feel numb. There’s no satisfaction. I jump straight from one fire to the next without ever processing what happened. It’s starting to scare me how normal this feels. I don’t want to live in survival mode forever. How do you actually decompress after high-pressure stretches instead of just powering through?

At some point, take an actual break. No one will do it for you. You have to push past your fear and take thr break. Be truly OOO for a weekend, a week, or two. No emails or at least a small window for them (2 hours before bed, an hour after waking up). Then, go live. Hunting, skiing, Disney, road trip, meditation, hypnosis, a yoga retreat. You have to push thru the anxiety and take the time away from work. You’ll struggle at first but eventually, after doing it 2-3 times in a year, you’ll start to adapt to it.

Either thst or keep going until you have a major blunder or your body breaks down. If you don’t take the break by choice, life will make you take it down the line.

Can confirm it is almost impossible to email while navigating Disney World these days! 🤣 and a Disney cruise makes internet optional. All around good advice. 😊

Lately I’ve been taking an hour in the morning to just have my coffee and sit with my dog and I tell myself everything can wait an hour.

Not sure one has the “luxury” of decompressing or processing. After a while, the cases and trials start seeming the same and unworthy of stress afterwards. Yes, they’re stressful at the time; performance anxiety, I suppose. It’s constant stress and it is an unhealthy lifestyle. But the rewards make it worthwhile until one becomes the manager of other young lawyers stepping up to the plate, or retires, or finds something else to do. Vacations are important; take at least 5 days off every quarter. Don’t neglect to go to the gym and keep fit. Above all, don’t neglect your spouse and family.

Hi community, humbly seeking professional HR advice. I recently joined my company’s HR team. In an informal conversation, a senior HRBP, considered a peer, called 2 of our fellow HR colleagues “worthless.” I should have rebuked her then & there but was so caught off guard. This person is 20 years my senior. In the same conversation this person advocated for me on a separate matter & complimented my performance. I am not sure what course of action to take at this time. Distraught & unsure.

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.
