SHRM-CP Exam Secrets Study Guide by Mometrix was the easiest for me break down and digest. A lot of people love to talk up the All In One Exam Guide by Dory Willer. However I found it to be very long winded, frustrating to understand or grab important points from, & difficult to comprehend what was for the CP exam vs the SCP exam. In the end I couldn’t get through a quarter of the 900 pages before the hole it was putting in my head caused me to seek other prep materials.

This is so helpful, thank you for sharing! I was thinking of getting the All in One Exam but def gonna check the other one out!

J1 & J2 together make about 200k although there is no room for growth in either but WLB is amazing (< 10hrs per week). Stuck contemplating if I should abandon overemploy to chase promotions seeing that I could eventually get to my current salary with my job. Just feeling a little stuck over all. I know many consultants most likely make more. Any one else feel this way or have any thoughts? I was thinking of looking for a different J1 and slowly try to climb up if possible.

Looking for exit opp advice: currently a SM in Corp Dev making ~170 TC (150 base, 15% bonus). May have an opportunity to take a role doing portfolio reporting and valuation accounting at a MM PE firm with c. 260-300k TC (200 base, 30-50% bonus) and an opportunity to invest in the fund. Would this be a smart move? I’m not sure I want to get stuck in the “back office” but the TC increase is hard to pass up. Also, any thoughts on what would be the work/life balance or hours for this role?

I’m a 5th yr considering lateraling from a V30 to a V100 to increase chances at partnership. The v100 makes a fair amount of partners in my practice and I would assess my chances at making equity partner there to be relatively good for BL. At the V30 equity partnership odds seem much lower, but my reviews have been good. The V30 has >$2mm per year higher PPP, higher chambers ranking and better exit ops generally.

Any advice as to how to decide on the offer? What else should I consider?

I currently take 1 design class a quarter to supplement my skills but unsure what else I can be doing to not fall behind. How can I make the transition well?

My question is: Is this career path promising in the long term, or should I go for higher studies like MBA? The night shifts are affecting my health. There is no work-life balance. I really don't care a lot about the money though!
