Yes, because when I became a partner my job was to get work for you. Trust me that’s a full time job. Your job is to know the case/ law. My job is to get the cases to pay your check.
I work way too hard to ever have that impression from any of my staff. Or I dam hope so.
My world (biglaw) is the opposite. Most partners are busing their ass to manage clients, maintain work quality, devise strategy, and continue business growth. There are a few who slack off, but it's not the norm.
Agreed. I’ve worked for equity partners for nearly 40 years at top national law firms. I have the deepest respect for all of them and their work ethic. That’s not to say that there may be some out there who are as OP is complaining of, but it’s not the norm in my world.
I thought this as well when I was young and did not see the big picture. I have come folks I could apologize to.
It’s the opposite in Big Law. I see the partners working until 1 AM alongside me on a regular basis. They sometimes work harder and bill more than I do.
The only exception is the very senior rainmakers at my law firm. They don’t work as much but they’re always developing business.
This is my experience as well - where I am, the partners are all working but there are definitely some senior partners who are really just managing big clients they brought in over the years
That’s how you know you’ve made it!

Not sure what practice area this is, but I can only dream. Currently taking a medical hiatus, and still billing more than some of my associates.
They earned it.
A bit hyperbolic but directionally true in many cases.
Which practice area, and is this common?
ID? there's a parable about lying down with dogs you know.
