Any recommendation for self-service content for advanced professionals?

Looking to hire a head of product design for a consumer internet company. Will be a team of 10-15 product designer and UX researchers. What is the most important skill/capability should they have? And how would you interview them to determine if they had that skill/capability?

Is it normal for a Product Owner to lay out specs for how a feature should work?

I thought that was my job as the ux designer to figure out the best way to solve a need. But I’m getting handed projects where the PO, and sometimes the senior designer has laid out exactly what should happen (components used, flow, etc) to design a feature. It’s really frustrating because I don’t know if I’m supposed to be speaking up on what I think or just do the UI work I’m asked to.

Designers, what is your relationship like with your PM and Design Manager? How do you typically work together?

I work at a corporation that doesn’t think through their project requests thoroughly. They often will cancel UX/UI projects months into working on them once it goes up to the CEO and they say the business plan & marketing strategy isn’t thought out. I haven’t worked on a SINGLE product that has launched. I have been interviewing many places, but fail the interview. I’m never sure how to answer questions about impact. Hiring manager also want to see live products, which I can’t show. Any advice?

I’ve been interviewing with Google since July. Passed the first interview but the team I was matched with ended up hiring someone else. Recruiter told me that she will let me know if any other opportunities arise as I’m still in the running and haven’t been rejected. I know that interviewing with google is a long process but I’m worried the longer I wait the more likely I will be rejected or just never hear back. Anyone else in this situation? How long until you got an offer?
