Apply agile thinking to your career.

Consider each job a sprint in your career path.

When you start a new job, go in:
(1) identifying who you’re building relationships with to extend your personal network with
(2) what opportunities you have for increasing your responsibilities, milestones, and achievements
(3) what will make a strong case study for building your portfolio

Have your exit in mind. It’s rare folks stay in the same job for multiple years these days.

For early career, focus on what you can learn from your hiring manager and team.

Work where the people are smarter than you, and absorb everything you can from their wisdom.

So would it be smarter to make the move now as a first year staff since I’ll be considered Experienced Hire anyway?

What is the most useful technical or soft skills for any mechanical engineer to have where you work? I’m curious to know what really matters for everyone and what makes a big impact on the team and business.

Specifics if you can; CAD tools, simulation, CAD speed or proficiency, industry or standards knowledge, GD&T, certifications, Microsoft Excel, presentation skills, technical writing, project management, self organization, great communication, teaching ability, relationship building, etc.

I have to pick a direction to move ahead in, Brand & Marketing Design(with website) vs Product design (Games UXUI , Physical and digital)

I have a solid background in both, so keeping preference aside - which direction do you think makes more sense to gain more experience in? And will make more sense for the future.

Anyone have any luck going client side? What are your tips/successes when approaching the transition?

What is the value in professional certifications? ACCA, CFA, CIPD, etc.

Hi All,

Say you have an offer for Senior Test Engineer and SDET (not senior).
Compensation is same. Both the companies are good.

Given the narrowing boundaries between testing and dev, which position is better in the long run? I thought it'd be SDET.
But, I'd like to have expert/experienced opinion.

Hey all,

I am a Salesforce enthusiasts and I look forward to working as a Salesforce Developer or a Business Analyst.

I look forward to connecting with you all and seeking for opportunities.

Fellow underwriters what do you do for VOI on OTR Truck Drivers who have not filed a tax return and can only provide a recent 1099 or earnings statement. My institution does not use 1099 as historically this income is before expenses. Our traditional practice is tax returns but we have seen a large uptick in people transitioning into this line of work who don’t have a TR yet. I was thinking institute the practice of taking RMA’s EBIDA% based on the 1099/earning statement? Any other thoughts?

Hi! I do freelance job as a UX Designer
And I just have rejected a job, because I don't believe in the business idea. I don't think it's gonna work and don't want to take a part in it. I also don't want to waste time arguing with the company manager...

Do you think it was a right choice ?

I’m doing my first UX portfolio on Wix. I have the case studies content drafted out, but I’m struggling with brainstorming wireframes/actual UI for my case studies. I make it a rule to look for dribbble/behance for inspo but only sketch when im not looking at things because I don’t want to copy directly.

I’ve tried using paper/thin markers highlighters, tried using procreate, and also illustrator/photoshop & a tablet. I keep running into issues where I feel overwhelmed. How do I simplify this?

I have an upcoming interview for a lead product design role. The company asked for a case study presentation made uniquely for this interview and specifically requested I don’t walk through my portfolio…

Has anyone else experienced this while interviewing?

Hey! I'm just about to start doing some freelance work for a NYC based boutique design studio, and I need to give a hiring manager my hourly rate to give his customers. I am new to UI/UX design. I have experience in graphic design, but I just completed a certificate in UI/UX design so other than school projects I don't have an extensive amount of experience. What would you suggest I should charge? I am more interested in gaining experience than needing the money, but want to be payed reasonably.
