Any first year associates at big law want to share their experience in the tax team?

I've been exploring exit opportunities for a few months and still holding out for the right opportunity. However, I've had A LOT of recruiters reach out to me for positions that are way below my current salary. They do the whole "your background and expertise is exactly what we're looking for" then turn around and offer a salary range that is 20k below my current level. My resume clearly says I've got 10yrs experience and an MBA. I **don't think* I should be getting offers of 80k-100k

Any T&E associates in here who I could talk to? I’m a transactional tax associate at a v5 firm doing M&A and capital markets work and hating it. I’m a 4th year with an LLM and a clerkship and I think I regret not pursuing T&E or private wealth.

In your opinion, which biglaw firms have the best tax groups?

Has anyone dealt with stuffing allocation in a non-hedge fund context? It seems even in the HF world the law is fuzzy in using aggregate reverse 704c principles in stuffing allocations. Like, sure, the market is there but no authority really blessed it (other than some Cravath partner’s article in Tax Notes in 2013). If we are talking asset class that isn’t really like marketable securities but might be able to treat it similarly solely by virtue of, say, valuation on a quarterly basis (contd)

Junior biglaw tax associate here. Considering an internal transfer vs lateral to NYC from a smaller market. Any firms in the v20 I should avoid/look into? I have pretty reasonable hours at my current firm and trying to avoid going to a sweatshop. Interested in international tax and hoping to avoid m&a. Transitioning from com. lit into tax controversy?

I have a tax LLM and started my career out of law school doing M&A tax at a big4. After 9 months, I got out of big4 transactional hell and into whatever litigation I could find. I now practice commercial lit but would welcome the opportunity to eventually transition into tax controversy (which I wasn’t able to do before). Does my commercial litigation “break” hurt my prospect? How long can I stay in com lit without hurting my chances even more?

Transitioning from biglaw to IRS Chief Counsel?

What is the best firm in NY for an associate interested in international tax planning (inbound and outbound), M&A, and transfer pricing?

For anyone who practices tax lit in the US Tax Court, what’s your experience with the independent office of appeals? They don’t seem quite that “independent” to me and so far, I’ve only had one appeals officer who seemed knowledgeable and nice. It’s been a real headache. Interested to hear other people’s experience.
