Yes. Their name is really long.

likefunny

Yes, it’s pronounced like Army barracks, not like Obama.

likefunny

Is it ferrezzano like the bridge or like pizza

Very selective (almost exclusively from NU/UofC) but pay is below market. Odd place. Ppl there seem happy and they're good. But hard to justify paying below market _and_ being so snobby.

Sophisticated and well regarded deal work, particularly for soft IP. Weak litigation department.

The litigation work is not on the same level as their corporate practice. It’s not a large enough firm to do major litigations but it’s also not the kind of elite boutique doing high payoff plaintiff side stuff. Mostly defendant side representations, lots of contract and franchise litigation.

Did a deal with them last year. They were good.

Received an offer for an internal promotion and the verbal offer differed from the written offer. Specifically, the bonus verbalized was 2% higher than the offer letter. HR basically just said ‘sorry, our mistake the letter is right’. What would you do?

PSA - We are headed into a self-imposed economic slow down. Now is not the time to lateral but if you do, I would make sure you are at a recession-proof practice or firm. The top law firms will be okay (they always are) but if you are part of a larger group of associates with no work, you are likely to be axed. Latham did it in the 2008 and 2011 and it will happen again. If you are an associate or really anyone but a rainmaker, you are expendable.

I’m a junior associate at a regional firm interviewing for a few big law firm positions this week. How much should I worry about the fact that I didn’t go to a T14 school (I graduated top 5% in a school ranked ~75) and didn’t start out in big law? Am I doomed?

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

From a vault ranking perspective, is it safe to assume V100 is all sweatshop big law? Reason I ask is because I want to lateral but not to a gunning big law firm — want to stay in big law but not at the ones at the top of the food chain like I am now. Want some sort of work life balance and wondering if the “lower ranked” big law firms offer this? Could just be my fantasy though…

I lateraled from a small firm to regional big law last year. I was told that my offer was commensurate with class year (5th year). The firm recently increased first year salary, with a 5% increase for all other attorneys. My original salary was equal to the new first year salary. The difference between my new salary and a first year is now $10k. I think it is fairly obvious that the hiring partner was not truthful with me. How would you address this? Is another lateral move my only option?

How do I quit my firm? I’ve accepted a position with a previous employer (non-legal), and they’d like me to start in 2 weeks. Paralegals have an informal agreement to stay with the firm for 2 years and I’m a few months shy of that, so I’m afraid they will be difficult in paying out my bonus from last year and my unused PTO. I’ve heard some shady things regarding leaving before the 2 year mark. Thanks!
