If you want to stay with windows, I have always been a fan of Lenovo hardware. I honestly don't think it matters at this point, Mac or windows. Both have great alternatives for each other's software.
I would recommend the newest MacBook Air. Take a look at the specs and you will see it is equal if not better than the current 13 inch pro. There is a 14 inch pro that is better performance but it’s 2K. They may release a more competitive 13 inch pro but as of now, the MacBook Air is the better option IMHO

I recently bought the 14” and it was $500 off at Best Buy. I’d go this route if it is still discounted.

MacBook Pro is my suggestion. You’ll eventually want to learn to use the command line and the mac is an easy intro to that. Plus home brew is nice.

Another for a MacBook Air or Pro especially if you decide to code iOS apps at some point.
Should be able to find great deals on MacBook Pros right now. Apple will be introducing new MBPs this month at their event.

Are Macs still good for data science as well? Really trying to make a career pivot into someone more technical so want to keep my options open!

OSX/Linux is kinda standard in data science
+1 Mac. I found it much easier to use with various technologies (i.e. AWS, airflow, etc) because installing tools, drivers, etc was a pain on Windows
