When looking at jobs, here is what I look for (in order): 1. (Truly competitive) compensation and benefits, 2. Culture/company ratings, 3. Flexibility (i.e. WFH, Hybrid, flexible hours/days, etc.), 4. Immediate team (and supervisor) personality/culture and their approach to training, and 5. Room for growth or offer to learn something new, if I choose.
If you’re willing to take your chance on someone new to the field and train them, you can reach out to local colleges/universities that offer paralegal programs. You can provide them with job opportunities to have their recent grads submit their resumes.
Good luck!
Training is not an issue. Great recommendation about the colleges and paralegal programs. I will look into that!
Some of our best people have come straight from college.
I will reach out to colleges in the area. This is a great idea. Thank you!

Hello
Where is your office located I am located near Utica, NY and have worked in law firms for nearly 20 years. I also have my associates degree in Paralegal Studies and will be finishing my Bachelors degree in Legal Studies next week. If you are located in New York.
Unfortunately we are a bit further away, our office is in NYC.
When I was in law school, I attended part-time and worked as a paralegal, and I was a good paralegal. I agree to give hungry young folks out of college a chance - they may surprise you!
This is where I will look next!
You may need to evaluate where the breakdown is occurring in your recruitment process. Is it a lack of qualified candidates? A lack of applicants? Insufficient interest in the opportunity? The answers will give you insight into what to do. If you’re not getting any applicants, you either have to sponsor the listing/invest in advertising & recruiting, or face the possibility that the opportunity may not be competitive in this market for whatever reason. Is there flexibility with hours, are benefits compelling, any hybrid options?
Alternatively, perhaps your posting is accidentally saying the inside-voice part out loud. A lot of job postings tout the “dynamic, fast paced environment” as exciting, but to many support staff applicants, that often reads as a red flag for burnout risk.
Another strategy that may help sidestep the recruitment drag (and also might be controversial): if you have a pulse on competitor/colleague’s legal teams in your area, staff satisfaction/retention and turnover, you can also strategically message folks (on LinkedIn for example) to see if they want to meet and learn more about your opportunity. For example, I once messaged a coworker of a former colleague when I heard of layoffs through the grapevine, and made a good long term hire as a result.
We do not use recruiters and I find a lot of paralegals are not active on LinkedIn and may not be even seeing the posting.
Ten years in personal injury field, in Texas. I can send my resume if you supply me with an email address.
Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, the position is NY based and hybrid
