Exactly, the one who arrives first and seeks attention is the one who is really noticed and appreciated. The quieter ones tend to go overlooked.
As long as they know how to attract attention, in some cases they are too direct and offend the people they interview, they have their moment of fame but then they are not remembered.
Not all successful ones are scandalous or controversial, I have seen many public figures who prefer certain journalists because they consider them respectful and kind.
That is counterproductive, being a scandalous and disrespectful journalist is closing the doors of the news, they can be very visible at first but that visibility is not totally good.
There is no one answer to this question. Journalists can be competitive and pushy because they want to get their story out there, but this isn't always the case. Some journalists are more laid-back and just want to report the news. It really depends on the person.
No, not all journalists are pushy and competitive. In fact, many journalists are actually quite friendly and down-to-earth. However, the journalists that people tend to notice are often the ones who are more aggressive and outspoken.
Not all journalists go for the breaking news stories. There are plenty of people like me who go looking for little-known stories that we can take our time with.
The calmer ones might miss out on the really sensationalized stories where people always send their "top talent" to interview someone who is high profile. But there are a lot of stories that people tend to ignore if they start thinking of themselves as hotshots. I would recommend talking with anyone and everyone. You never know who you might meet this way.
A lot of them are really pushy, but there are also a lot who are very chill and really enjoy their jobs. If you are focused on making the most of each article you write, then the quality of writing will be the best. And that certainly makes my job easier!
I've wondered this too, it seems like the only ones I see on TV are very competitive and insist on one-upping others
