Any tips on how to note down the minutes during the meeting and maintain it for later? I usually keep nothing the minutes but don't structure them well. Help appreciated

Type as much as possible during the call and then go through and structure them immediately after. This can be tough if you have back to back calls though

Yup one note is the best for this (for my team and me). You can set up different sections of the notebook and it notes the date and author

Personally I disagree with what has been said so far. Taking down everything is alot of effort (and very junior level note taking) and overall you will never learn to listen for the key points that you need because you're too focused on getting everything.

If there is an agenda I focus on the following for each theme or area

1. Issues
2. Decisions
3. Outstanding questions

Then have a column out to the right for action items, owners and target date (i.e., Mike - project plan to group - wed)

Some just list all action items at the bottom of notes with columns for
Topic / description/ owner / target date / status

Writing everything down furiously word for word is very time consuming for clean up after and makes it very hard to properly listen to the conversation if you need to respond and add to the conversation

In those sorts I usually write category headings and add dot points to them as I listen. If you know what you will be talking about you can make these headings in advance of the meeting. It's also a bit easier doing this when writing than typing.

Then your notes are already ordered. I usually clean up after or add important additional details which is far quicker than having to clean up a page of random unstructured dialogue

Taking notes on paper, with a pen, forces you to synthesise while writing and listen more actively. I’d start with that rather than typing up an entire discussion

It is common. They may have found a note taking method that works for them. Dont let it rush you. When you find your groove you'll be in the same manner.

If writing helps you at first, learn that way but eventually you will probably switch to a computer so you're not doing double work

I use a lot of what C1 and D2 say. Since almost all meetings are scheduled through Outlook and Outlook is tied to OneNote, I use the plug in and it sets up the notes with the name, date, agenda, and attendees. If you play around with OneNote, you can set up a template so that it has preset sections such as an action items table at the top.

When your notes are bullet points and you’ve addressed C1’s points, you don’t need to go back through your notes before sending them out. Just run spellcheck (also let everyone know these will be rough notes as your goal is to get them out ASAP after a meeting). Since OneNote also has an “email page” button that auto-addresses the email to the attendees, as well as functionality to track actions across pages and sync back to Outlook, it can be super handy!

1) During the meeting, take notes and write stuff down as it happens
2) Immediately after the meeting, while things are still fresh, run through your notes and re synthesize into an action plan (what was agreed to, who's going to provide x, y and z, next steps, etc.)

helpful

Use one note. Have a tab for each meeting. One note is integrated with outlook.

I like to organize meeting minutes based on discussion topics. If it’s an interview, I’ll organize responses based on question/topic. If it’s a deck review I’ll organize by slide # or deck section. And I’ll always have a section for “general comments” that don’t align to a specific topic and another section for “actions/next steps”.

Misled on Maternity Leave Policy. I found out I only get 4 weeks pay for maternity leave (STD +“sick days”). I will take 12 weeks but wont get paid for 8 weeks. I work for a US, west coast based company in the tech/VC industry. Their website claims to offer “paid parental leave and other progressive benefits for parents”. I didn’t find out until after I was hired their pay was only 8 weeks but since I have been at the company less than 12 months, I don’t qualify for their policy. Is this unfair?
