… since when simply going to work/office is micromanaging?? It used to be the bare minimum like 4 years ago. Just go to the office or start your own gig so you can dictate where you want to work at all time
Since COVID proved it's not necessary. Since Law firms have lost a lot of their talent to remote roles. Since it's 2025 and the "old way" of doing things obviously doesn't work anymore if it's causing companies to lose their top talent. Instead of trying to force people to work how you think they should work, just let people work how they work best. It seems fairly simple to me. We are all adults. Unless you are one of the ones who needs to SEE them working to know they are, then I can understand why this post bothers you.
I'm a big WFH fan, but I can understand why businesses want us in the office. Training has taken a nose dive since COVID because it never happens organically- people can't just sit in on meetings or stop by with a minor question. It's taking juniors longer to get up to speed than it used to.
For those desiring rhetorical ammo in arguing that your firms shouldn’t have strict RTO, feel free to point out that the biggest, busiest, highest revenue, most profitable firm in Texas is super loose about it (technically 3 days notice but not really enforced in practice). How can they insist that RTO is necessary for the business to do well when their #1 competitor is beating them in every metric without shoving RTO down everyone’s throats?
Same, all these firms are mostly the same but RTO being loose or strict is one of the few big material differences, and K&E staying loose in the face of many other firms’ nonsense is a massive factor in keeping me here (and is helpful in our recruiting).
