Anyone else ever wish they could just do the actual accounting work, like deep-dive into the numbers, build clean processes, and solve real problems, without all the performative BS? Like I love the work itself, but sometimes it feels like I'm being judged more on how I schmooze with a senior manager than the quality of my output.

I just want to be valued for doing the damn job well.

No

Maybe you’re just on a bad team. Most managers would do anything to get a staff who just wants to put their head down and do a great job (and can do it).

I just do the work. I want people that can just do the work. Haha

I'm an introverted person, like to keep to myself, focus on work, spend the rest of my time on family, gym etc. I've been told that I need to work on my communication and client relationship building skills. any books I can read? I don't follow pop. culture anymore, no longer actively follow team sports (but sporty myself) as I consider it bread and circus for the masses and don't rly enjoy work drinks... Am I doomed? Personally I am happy and love the work but fear for my career progression.
