Lol what? I'm allowed to live out of state with no mandates to RTO like other companies. They told me when I moved that they wouldn't pay for me to come to office, so they set expectations upfront and I agreed to them. They don't pay my colleagues' bus or train tickets to go to the party either.
No, I'm not mad that they don't pay for my transportation to a party.
Finance is lowering pay bands for new hires across the board. Departments are reporting that they have to fight to get reqs, even for backfills. Management is being told they have to meet the same billable utilization targets as individual contributors. We are being told we're approving vacation time "too easily." Promotions and raises have been reduced.
And you're complaining that no one paid for a plane ticket for you so that you could wander around and eat free food for a couple of hours.
"Time" is an entirely different concept than what you posted and a lot of people would be inclined to agree with you about that, including me. I had to work during the party as well, and I live in NYC. I didn't attend and it was a shame. But the people who did attend didn't disappear all day unless you told them to. The party says, like, a few hours. I have a team of only six people and somehow we managed to cover--no one was out of circulation the entire time (nor would anyone really want to be, these parties are not that special).
But your post is not about time parity, it's about the company footing the bill to put you on an airplane to attend a few-hour party. Not only is that kind of nuts, but it also comes off as incredible VP-level entitlement. It also makes no sense if you're actually talking about time parity since the time you spent in the air not working would be significantly more than the time anyone at that party was away from their desks.
I didn’t go to this last year because they also didn’t have the free bus from the actual office.
It’s not you, they’re cheap to even the people who live here lol
