Why is it that a lot of couples I know living in big cities are in open relationship?

For those that are home grown (at least 2 levels) into the PPMD level, how has your relationship with juniors that you’ve been close to from the start evolved? Have you had to pull away from them (intentionally or not) or are you just as close? Is the saying “it’s lonely at the top” rung true for you?

My wife reads nearly an entire book per day just in her spare time after work, no exaggeration. I’m amazed by her and wondering what ideas are out there to monetize her skill? Book editing maybe?

My sister and I have recently both come to the realization that our parents guilt us into spending time with them or visiting them and the guilt causes us both to shut down. Our dad is the main offender, often reminding us how little time we have left with him, asking us why we’re leaving so soon or reminding us about all the good deeds and sacrifices made. This is the only bowl I can think to post in, but I'm really feeling it today. Has anyone lost their best friend (i.e. through time/growing up) and feel like none of their current friends could live up to the fun/connection you used to have with your high school BFF? I feel like I put too much focus on that one friend and also my boyfriend and just never actually made time for anyone else. I fucked myself over.

I cringe when I'm at a friend's house and they answer their phone, find out it's a telemarketer, and just hang up on them. It's so rude. They know I have to cold-call people at my job and you'd think they would at least act like they were more respectful of the job.

Any parents who are still on the safe side with Covid? We have a 1 year old and being safe and staying mostly home is really getting to me. Most of our friends have kids who are able to mask up or are vaccinated and it’s getting quite isolating. Trying to help my retired dad - When I google for what to do after retirement, only retirement planning related things shows up. Why do we always tell people “Be the best version of yourself before starting a relationship?”
I feel this is wrong…first, if you’re someone who constantly wants to be better, this doesn’t work. Also, what happens when you’re going through things and you’re not the best version? What happens is…the going gets tough and then one person leaves the other.

Our 5 month old started daycare about 5 weeks ago. We’ve already had to keep her home for 2.5 of those 5 weeks due to catching various illnesses (croup, rsv, brinchiolitis, etc). I’d say about 50-60% of people (at all levels, across all age groups and races) list their gender pronouns in email signature. I list mine because I see it as a way to show support for colleagues who may not be cisgender.
