Yes, AI anxiety definitely increasing. I’m learning to conquer the anxiety by (1) FULLY embracing AI and adopting it into my workflow to increase my efficiency, (2) working hard to get very good at the super substantive parts of the job that require high level human judgment, and (3) drowning out the noise about ai taking all our jobs online.
Are you both juniors? I have 0 AI anxiety. I’m fully embracing it.
Harvey is great! Certainly not a replacement but a very good tool to find a starting point or starting ideas when you’re struggling to find something (corporate).
I saw a recruiter posting about this on LinkedIn and actually found what they said spot-on. It basically boiled down to, correlation is not causation. The junior associate market is cooling right now, but that doesn't mean it's because of AI. Clients have been complaining about paying to basically train juniors for a long time, and with the economy being what it is and deal volume slowing down, there's a supply and demand problem. Blaming AI is convenient, but the more plausible explanation is this is a market correction that's been a long time coming.
Will there be fewer juniors (and therefore fewer mid-levels, seniors, counsel, and partners down the road) as a result of AI creating efficiencies? Maybe. But the need for juniors is definitely not going away. They just need to adapt to the new tools/technologies and set themselves apart by becoming adept in how to use them.
Just make sure you are not on the low end of the totem pole
