Just book the car with your chase reserve. Don’t get anything else. I had a Audi Q3 once on the card which I crashed, and chase covered every last penny of the claim hassle free.
Did they cover liability on the other car? Thought it was just CDW insurance
Yup
Yep, that’s it. When you get to the counter they’ll usually see you have insurance from the card and won’t ask for your actual car insurance
Do I purchase third party insurance since it is not covered by the card?
Renting in US but renting for the first time.
In my experience, they always ask because they try to get the most money out of you. You should say no, I am covered with my card and be adamant if they press again.
You’re going to want liability insurance from the rental agency then. Chase only includes CDW insurance. Liability is way cheaper than liability+ CDW so still a good deal.
Generally, you just book the car using the card and it’s covered. Unless you’re in a different country, like Mexico, but it sounds like that isn’t the case.
Alternatively, your personal auto insurance should cover you if you have full coverage. First line of coverage is on the car, however, if the car is not insured then it will default to the driver covered under a policy.
Also fyi, if you're renting for work, most employers will also have insurance coverage that supersedes personal and credit card for both the rental and liability
