Anyone have experience in audit, tax, and private/industry accounting? Curious to know your thoughts and preferences for which to work in. Not sure if I want to stay in audit, but am unsure if I should go to either tax or private.

Are you looking for someone who has tried all three…? What don’t you like about audit? The hours are the same (if not worse) in tax. Industry or consulting are better exits.

What do you “despise” about audit? And how far along are you in your career?

I have experience in audit and private/industry. What's the question?

like

I like the work more in audit as it is more engaging and interesting but dislike the stress and hours of the job. For private, it is better hours and less stress compared to audit but the work is easy and mundane, in my opinion. Right now I am having a hard time finding something that has more interesting work and good leadership with good communication and flow of information.

I only have experience in tax compliance (in ITS rn) unless you count auditing the tax provisions and ASC740s. And I despise that audit work. Luckily I do very minimal audit related work. Much more of a numbers person and I don’t like feeling like an opp trying to find those material errors so that’s why I like tax. It can probably be routine in the same way audit is unless you start touching on advisory/tax consulting.

Been getting some interesting ads in Georgia. Got a letter about how Jon Ossoff is going to destroy Georgia’s economy and attacking him and his character. This was generated by David Perdue.

Ossoffs response? Bring up all the ridiculousness Perdue has done and how he’s left Georgia in a worse position. Didn’t say Ossoffs name once, just said get rid of Perdue.

Are there any diversity clubs/groups in B4/EY? Are they worth it in terms of meeting new people/networking/making friends?

I feel left out in my firm. How do I make 'friends' with my colleagues? I've been here for a year. I am naturally not a very out going person, was never 'cool' and I struggle to speak in group situations / make engaging conversation with higher ups. It is an important trait to have in this job and I just don't know how to do this. It makes me very upset - I even sought therapy but wasn't useful. I can't spend 14 hours each day feeling like this:(

Recently obtained my aPHR and I’m considering next steps in advancing my career. I am eligible to sit for the SHRM-CP presently and will not be able to sit for a PHR until 09/2023. Any pros/cons with either certification? Should I wait to sit for PHR or go for SHRM-CP now?

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

Any tips on assessing if the hiring manager will be a good manager and person to work with?

I’d be hoping to learn a lot from them, as they would be pretty much be all of my day-to-day interactions and team. I’ve received an offer but have asked for another convo as I’m still unsure on culture, WLB and training etc as it’s a new team so no other people in comparable roles to talk to.

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?
