Ok no offense, but there’s a big difference in missing two bullet points and missing 4 YOE.
At most you should be applying to roles at the 2-3 YOE mark, 5 YOE is an incredible stretch
No you're fine, I misspoke there.
5 YOE was an example I am definitely targeting 3-5. I have had conversations for roles that are asking for 5 YOE, it's just that my challenge from a screening process is to get to that conversation
Truly what makes a difference between 1 YOE and 3-5 YOE? If we include years I been in the industry working full-time internships through the year that's another 2 YOE.
I agree wisdom/experience can play a factor but that doesn't mean I am not ready for those roles if the only factor is based off YOE
I just did with 1.5 YOE and a Master’s. Lots of throwing apps at a wall and seeing what stuck. The only secret sauce was really researching the company and making it seem like I was super interested and knew my stuff. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat
Referrals are your best friend. You won’t get much traction otherwise
I switched with 1 YOE and a bachelor’s - definitely doable but you need to apply to roles that are realistic for your YOE, background, & skills
Would recommend narrowing your job search, tailoring your resume to the job description & the skills it lists, and curating your elevator pitch for each role to nail the phone interview
I also switched with a bachelors and 1 YOE. What I realized is that at our level and with the low YOE, no one is really testing us for experience because frankly we haven’t done shit. My MD said he looks for attitude and for how willing we are to hustle and open to being coached/developing a skill set. Could apply in your case too
I think 5 yoe is a stretch but if they are asking for 2-3 yoe then might be doable. Get a referral and actually put in effort for interview prep. If you worked in consulting for 1 year then that probably equates to 2 year of industry experience. You can always have a conversation with the recruiter what could be the best fit
