If so, are you able to prioritize that over YouTube’s algorithm?
TikTok is valued around 300 billion with its recommendation engine/algorithm, offers are being made at 80 billion without. 220 billion seems like a big ask for a FB post though. Improving on Google’s search algorithm also seems like a big ask for a FB post. A 3rd party would need your previous search history, maybe your interests, previous interaction, and it would like to spy on you to refine those recommendations even further. The relevancy keeps you addicted in non-stop things you like. That’s why TikTok is dangerous in the hands of China its spyware with mostly good intentions currently. I could take that same algorithm flip a switch and start fueling unrest and tear a country apart, instead of removing the content. It could 100% be weaponized.
Search is different than recommendation. Two different algorithms. Search indexes all the videos, and through title naming, description, content it can figure out relevancy. When I type in Eagles, I don’t get videos about crows. It’s certainly possible to build that outside of YouTube. Recommendation engine is tougher from outside. You’d just need a bot to crawl it constantly, which is exactly what Google itself does. There you go the one video search to rule them all. Billion dollar idea and I don’t know of one. AI isn’t really needed for search. It is useful for recommendations.
I don’t know of anything right off, but it is an interesting though. I know that sometimes the searches aren’t always giving the best results. If you are looking for something specific, I like to go to reddit or something similar and get channel recommendations. When just browsing though, not sure what there is for that.
Agree 100%… Reddit recos are good not great. Would be amazing to have a Perplexity just for YouTube/Vimeo!
Sounds like a fun idea until you get to the point where you'd have to grant access to your watch history, and perhaps more information, over to an AI tool. Even if an AI tool could catalog all the content on YouTube, which is some task, people would be wary of opening their accounts up to a third party tool. And really, for what? How much better could the recommendations be?
Not sure you’d need to do that- you do t need to leverage your browser history for a Claude search. Just want to know the absolute best videos for changing break pads, making a smash burger etc. there is so much crap to wade through…
