If you're honestly happy with your salary, then you shouldn't keep that hidden. There is a stigma around sharing salary with people, but the reality is that whatever you're making is your reality. Talking about it can incite comfort or it can cause discomfort that hopefully gives you the motivation you need to make a change. On the other hand, if you're not wanting to give your number away, you could just say that it's enough or it's not enough, and that you're unhappy or you're happy
I earn enough for living.. would avoid number by saying this..
Yeah, it's very awkward to tell someone your number, unless it's a significant other or close friend. You don't need to know how much I make...but that's just me. I was raised to be private when it comes to money though, so maybe it's a cultural thing.
I feel VERY uncomfortable discussing my salary (so maybe it is a cultural thing?) when people ask, I give a range or I just try to be vague and make a joke out of it like "ugh never enough!" or something dumb like that to deflect. Don't want anyone to be envious...or for someone to make a snide remark so better to hide I think haha
I try to avoid giving a number whenever I can, but for very close people or situations where it'd be less beneficial for me to not disclose, I give an estimate of my take home, in hand, after tax.
