Houston food bank.
+1 Houston Food Bank and Feeding America are my first go-to charities, esp whenever they are doubling or tripling the donations!
First off, thank you!
I think it’s great you brought the topic of philanthropy, the gift of giving and service to others, to this forum. There are so many in need…
A few things to consider:
- Time commitment: if volunteering your time: to ensure the amount of time is not, and/or will not, become an issue (for you and them), it’s always good to ask the organizer to specify the anticipated time commitment.
- Money: you are going to be very popular if you advertise that you are in a position to donate. (I assume that you personally donating and not on behalf of your company) . Fundraising specialists for nonprofits are VERY good at what they do.
Long story short - think about the causes that are important to you and support them. Also, determine what amount you want to donate in advance- and stick to it.
Here are just but a few …
Houston PetSet
Harris County Animal Shelter
BARC
CAP
Salvation Army - holiday volunteers
Houston Food Bank
Houston Symphony
Houston Museum of Natural Science
The Children’s Museum
TUTS
Habitat for Humanity
MD Anderson
I could go on…DM me if you would like more options… 😊
Something else to possibly look into is your own company’s philanthropic efforts. Are they organizing groups to volunteer time/effort to a cause that you would also like to support?
Enjoy the journey and the holiday season 🙏
I cant thank you enough for this. So so helpful! Enjoy your holiday season as well!

I’m a big fan of Project CURE, they’re one of the largest distributors of donated medical equipment in the US.
They typically ship cargo containers of medical supplies and equipment to countries that are in need (just generally or after a natural disaster)
Food banks are also always a good bet
That's great! Thanks for this
Any animal shelter
Is this limited to places that will face extreme weather ... open to countries out of the US?
I was curious about local communities / organizations in need. But I'm interested in hearing other recommendations as well
Beareesourceshouston.com - be a resource houston to help CPS kids…their individual gift lists are closed out but they still have an extensive Amazon wish list…looking to supply around 19,000 gifts for the holidays I think…they are also continually taking donations of clothing, health and beauty items, bags/backpacks, baby necessities…
Social workers are able to refer families over for necessary items…truly a good cause in my opinion.
Correction …correct website is https://bearesourcehouston.org/
