I think they look and read like a student portfolio of a kid who thinks they’re way more clever than they are
I love these “oh anyone know who did this ad (I clearly did and am fishing compliments for?)” posts
Me too. Like or not. They put Oatly on the map.
Strangely I feel the exact opposite
To each their own :)
I really like them. Why do people hate them? I think the fact that they're a swedish brand kind of fits that quirky offbeat humor they have.
We hate them because we have taste.
It has nothing to do with the product at all. It laterally tells me nothing. It’s not building a brand, it’s just getting my attention. And if you don’t understand the difference between those two things then you shouldn’t be in advertising. A brand is more than a tone of voice.
Yep, all of this. 👆
Then add in the fact that the ads aren’t even all that funny, and you’ve got a big fail on this campaign. Sure, it’s generated a lot of shop talk, but in all honesty, I credit that to the obviously massive media buy. One of the reasons we’re talking about it is that we can’t get away from it. This shite work is constantly slapping us in the eyes.
I think they have their own in-house thing. Someone posted an article about it a few weeks ago
It’s all in-house creative with media by some Omnicom company.
It’s really bad work.
They’ve been around a lot longer than people think with the same tone of voice. Now they just bought proper media placement for it. Say what you want about them, but having an opinion or even remembering what you’ve seen out of the thousands of ads we see a day means it’s working. Agreed they are definitely floating in the top of mind awareness stage, but a small shop up making a splash up against the decades-strong milk industry has to start somewhere. Also, it’s f*cking delicious.
I hate the simpleton responses that just because you remember an ad, or it got publicity, it means it worked. That’s the P.T. Barnum school of advertising. It’s wrong, and the only people who cite P.T. Barnum are usually people who don’t know how marketing works. Oatly is doing well not because of these ads, but in *spite* of these ads. They are running solely on brand image, against hapless/weak competitors. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.
I like it :) def to each their own. I know oats in trend and friends outside of the industry is talking about it
I think they’re cute. We are all immune to the effects of advertising and “brand building”. It’s actually smarter than you think. It is attention grabbing and conversation starting, and now you know what it is. So it’s a little levity- can’t we all stop being beat over the head with advertising?
Producer 1 - This is the Ad Agencies bowl, if agency pros can’t discuss both the positive and negative aspects of campaigns we see on here, then where would you recommend we have these discussions?
I find them boring and basic, & they would not pass the sniff test at my big fancy ad agency (aka this would never win an award) - but a lot of people have been talking about them. So what does that mean for all the extra effort and complexity we put in to do something unique, never-been-done-before etc etc when something this basic seems to work?
I love these ads! So do most of my friends. We have a bottle of the milk in the office. I tried and I loved it!
Loving the product ≠ loving the ads.
There's an article and they're hiring.
But the only flavors were caramel apple and peanut butter and jelly...
If you live in nyc it was at sunac.
Love the drama. Please go on🍿
Forsman & Bodenfors Stockholm
I don’t think they did the US work.
The cover story of Adweek features a whole piece about Oatly: https://www.adweek.com/brand-marketing/oatly-used-many-strategies-to-succeed-in-the-u-s-but-a-marketing-department-wasnt-one-of-them/. They seem to be doing just fine without...
Didn’t we just beat this topic to death a few days ago? Can someone post the link to the previous thread, or is this going to be a recurring subject?
A team who worked on the brand at Forsman & Bodenfors then left to run Oatlys in house creative. Pretty sure it’s all done from Sweden.
Might wanna run google translate on this, but yeh, it’s Swedish, established by F&B and since they got bought up, some people that have worked on it have gone client side. Not sure if they done the US work everyone going on about, but yep the fight against cow milk started outta sverige: https://www.resume.se/sok/?q=Oatly&p=1
They’re super fun! Definitely memorable Totally feels in-house tho. Clients love to water down that offbeat tone.
