Retired at 52. First year was amazing. Slept in and basically took life super easy. Did a little travel as well. De-stressing from my IT management career took about 3 months. Everyone in my social circle still works and I found myself a bit bored on some days. So, I started working part time at a museum. I’m now full time, but it’s been great. It’s also a great feeling knowing that I can walk away at any time. The freedom is incredible for your psyche.
Net worth just over $4 mil. Inheritance, investments and some real estate. Income stream from the real estate only, which I pay a management company to handle.
Do I ever wish I was back where I was before retiring? Absolutely not! EY was a great firm for me and I was paid quite well, but life is much more enjoyable now.

You need to have something that occupies your time. Humans are meant to be productive and social. Could be a hobby, reading, grandkids, volunteering, travel, playing golf, planning and executing social events. Organizing/editing all the famiky photos and videos. If you have trouble filling your weekends and get bored on vacations,if there is nothing you wish you had more time so you could do it early retirement may not be for you.

Yes. Having the funds to enjoy the life you want to live is key😉.
But don't let fear put it off. We waited until Jan after our daughter graduated college. Turns out Jan 2020 was not the best time to start all that traveling we had planned 😂

Look up term FIRE. Financial Independence, Retire Early. There is a whole movement out there with people sharing strategies and techniques.
I’m struggling with r retirement it is boring. Can’t seem to find anything to occupy my time. There’s nothing For Seniors to do no type of activities. I think I’ll go back to work part-time for fun.  i’m fairly new in these parts. Maybe if I find a good fishing spot or a good aerobics class I could handle it but as of now I am bored as bored can be

Planning on retiring from my primary career around 55. I need something to occupy my time so I’ll likely pick up something a little more fun to do with my time.
It’s great you can finally have the time to follow a passion. It’s so important to have that sense of fulfillment, whether it be a different less stressing job or something else.
Retire earlier this year at 52. Golf, working out, cooking, community service and traveling keeps us busy. Love it.

I have always wanted to retire early, but sadly I didn't plan early enough. Time is your best friend. If I could retire early I would start a small business that would not occupy all my time and that I wouldn't depend on it financially. It would be more like a hobby. For example, I would buy old furniture to revarnish and sell or open up a small rental place for things that are rarely used but needed, like some power tools or rare tool that you only use once. A friend of mine wanted to open a fish and chips at the beach. It has to be something fun and meaningful to you.
I am now semi retired. Lost my last job a month ago. Am 64. I have 1.1MM. That was my goal. I am hoping that with SS I will be in good shape financially. Need to get some hobbies.
Now I know where the term pipe dream comes from! It must have been uphoric dreams after smoking Opium!
OMG do it! Travel, read, volunteer, learn totally different things, challenge yourself in new ways. I viewed it as "this is the youngest and healthiest I'm going to be".
Unless you got your finances in order let them put you out…. Health and housing expenses will bury you so fast
Healthcare is the expense I’d be most worried about. There’s be a huge gap until Medicare eligible. It makes working even part time to get insurance more enticing.
