long-term relationship ending, moving from nyc back home with your parents... just fall in love with a former high school boyfriend and figure out a way to save a family tradition just in time for christmas and you’ll be living a hallmark movie
Go to Chicago! It might just end up being the remedy you need. You could also start interviewing in Chicago while you’re there. Just as a back up plan, incase your job isn’t cool with you working remotely when the office opens up.

I wouldn’t get a new lease, but if you meant to live with your parents, do it for sure.
Most companies seem to agree they’ll give advanced notice on a return to work
Also sorry to hear about the breakup, hopefully it’s an opportunity in disguise!

It would be nice to save some money and spend time with my parents, but don’t know if it’s a bad move from the firm’s perspective

nah just move back home and worry about it when the office announces reopening. After a break up you might find more peace at home with your family than alone in NYC.
Just discovered sonder - cute long term rentals in larger cities that are fully furnished. An option if you want to be near your family but not live with them and don't want to sign a lease!
GO HOME! Incredible advantage if they live within office limits.
Hate to hear that. I don’t even know how I would begin to feel in your position.
The main thing to consider is state income taxes. If you move to and work from Chicago, then you are obligated to pay Illinois income taxes instead of NY income taxes. Since your firm manages tax withholdings on your behalf, you are supposed to notify the firm of a change in your tax jurisdiction.
Places in NYC are VERY cheap rn (compared to what they were) so it’s a great time to move.
Living together after a break up is infinitely worse than the break up... 10/10 do not recommend. Make the move!!!
You need to check with your employer before you move as aren't there tax consequences for moving state?
Personally I lives with my ex for 2 months after a breakup and it was fine. However our breakup was very civil with no hard feelings.
If you had a heated breakup I'd suggest you get out of there asap as it will just be toxic
