This is only my opinion but stay the course, especially if you’re young. Don’t do anything drastic. This isn’t the first time the market has done this and historically over the long term you come out ahead if you keep your eye on the long game.
If anything, there are opportunities and positions to take now that will pay off in the future. When there’s blood in the streets…
Thank you! I’m thinking of paying in more now…
Breathe, very deeply, and stop looking at your account for a while. It’s going to be mad for a bit because the market responds to lack of surety, but presumably if it’s in an ISA you don’t need to access the money that is in there tomorrow. The media LOVES the drama of a market dip and some recession fearmongering. Gets people clicking. So part of how you’re feeling right now is just emotional manipulation!
For me, cashing out now is just locking in a loss so that isn’t happening. My personal strategy (I’m no expert and this is just my choice based on my circumstances) is I’m going to pay more in, on my usual schedule, when I’ll get more shares for less money so that part is nice. That, and try to practice some detachment 😅 I do this every time, and I have lived through a few of these dips!
Things might be messy for a while, but time is on my side for it to bounce back.
I always try and remember that Buffet quote about being greedy when others are fearful.
I also try to remember that I still own the same number of shares as I did before. The value has changed, sure, but it will change again.
So yeah, breathe deep and hang on in there.
Great advice, thank you!
Do nothing. Forget about it. You aren’t in control. It’s a waiting game anyway.
