Anyone working here Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) at NYC and can share feedback. How is the company to work at. How is the culture? How is the work life balance ? How good is the stability or are they known for lay offs ? Is time off frowned upon? Do they really offer hybrid model or expect all days to be in office

I don’t have any friends at either company so I was curious if anyone has experience and can shed some light on culture/ work life balance to help me make a decision? Thanks for the help guys!

I was there for a few months this year but left because I wanted to grow. It's really slow but you can totally start a family. I saw myself retiring there, if I didn't dislike my team so much. My team didn't go into the office at all lol. The company is very slow to change and with new people coming in from big banks that want to bring change... there's tension. Keep your head down and no one will bother you and you'll do just fine. SMBC is at the end of the day a Japanese bank, so Japanese culture is pervasive and not for everyone. In Japan, they take care of their employees and you can see that in their benefits package, which is the best I've ever seen. They also didn't lay anyone off during the pandemic (see previous sentence). They believe in having a job for life, so Japanese tend to stay in one company and do rotations.
How has your experience been there so far? How is the culture and workload?
