Anyone works for Optum (United Health Group) ? I currently work for a small/medium size company with 4.7 ratings on Glass door and really good company but I have been trying to get promoted for a while now and no success, manager keeps telling me i have to work on different things each time we have a review. I got an offer recently in Ireland to work for Optum so just want to know is it worth it ? reviews here are a mix of good and bad and honestly i just want to know if i should take the offer.

Don’t do it. That company lays off all the time. You may not be able to keep the job for long.

Never worked for Ireland location, however Optum is a decent organization and Ireland has been a source of ton of talent in last 5-6 years. Also having worked for different healthcare companies what I can vouch for is Optum pays right around top healthcare companies and has policies mostly favoring employees. If you wish to progress through your career in first 10 years then you are in a good spot. Every company will have its flavor of politics and incidents that you may find here on this website. What I can say is that again as employer it gives some flexibility that some others don’t. Good luck making your decision

I'm two thirds through the PMA Core Certification, and the info is great but the tests are a joke. They need to contract with an educator that specializes in testing and assessment to come in and develop exams that actually measure if you know the material. The bad test design devalues the certification. Not to zero, but I definitely will not be proud to have earned it. It just means I had $1300 and sat through 15 hours of video lectures.

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.

Are there any tax professionals in the Lancaster, PA area that are looking to leave public? The recruiter for my company says there's no one out there and I get that a LCOL area in Pennsylvania won't have the applicant pool as a bigger city but I find it hard to believe there are no tax people available for the jobs we have.

I have a few questions for people in consulting roles (both external/internal).

My partner is in corporate banking, but he wants to switch to a consulting/strategy-based role. I noticed people with those jobs typically have an MBA, and also majority of the job ads in similar roles has MBA as either a requirement or preferred qualification. So:

1) does MBA actually improve someone's chance in getting those roles?
2) are there any good Canadian MBA programs you'd recommend?

Thank you all!
