Are there any tax professionals in the Lancaster, PA area that are looking to leave public? The recruiter for my company says there's no one out there and I get that a LCOL area in Pennsylvania won't have the applicant pool as a bigger city but I find it hard to believe there are no tax people available for the jobs we have.

Are you in public? Or industry? What company and what level jobs are open?

There’s plenty. I work in center city Philadelphia. There is an Amtrak train that takes your right into the city in about an hour.

The issue that your recruiter is most likely having is that there are no people for the jobs at the amount they are willing to pay.

I have some family at RKL and they are losing people to remote firms that pay 30-40% more than local companies will.

Define pay well. Remember with remote jobs your not just competing against local firms and industry jobs but, remote jobs that are based in California and will pay 6 figures for a senior role.

Some people want to be in the office as well so, they exist just need to find the right people in the right place at the right price. It’s not super easy.

Give me a high enough offer and I’ll relocate to PA

What level? I’m am sm that could potentially be wooed if the comp and work is right.

I’m in Delaware county. Is it hybrid? What’s the pay scale?

Depends on the pay! Ha

If you go for interview and you sort of know that the person interviewing you might be curious about something on your negative on your resume like why is there a gap or why were you in XX role for so long?

Do you address it pre-emptively? Or does that show insecurity and you leave the elephant in the room and wait till they ask you?

I guess this is more in the case of networking than interview like do you make your own story?

Am I understanding utilization rate correctly? It’s chargeable time over total time? Charged 40 hours and had 10 hours non-charge so my utilization is 80%? If so, wouldn’t it benefit me to understate non-charge hours so my utilization is higher since they only really care about chargeable time anyways? Charge 40 hours still but only put 5 hours non-charge for utilization to be 89% instead of 80%? Or am I misunderstanding how utilization works?

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?
