That’s great congratulations!
Paid mine off this year ( a 30yr paid off in 15, yay me) and had no one to celebrate with. When I called my town office to switch over my tax payments from mortgage co to me, the town clerk congratulated me really sweetly which made my day.
Fraudsters don’t like to target homes with bank liens because they have dedicated teams and counsels that monitor these things to protect their investments. I know some people with paid off
homes who choose to get a small HELOC opened (for like 20-30k) that they never actually use so they can have an extra set of eyes on the property. You don’t have to do all that IMO. Just monitor your county records. Check at least every 3, 6 months. Believe me. Some evil people make homeowners lives miserable with these types of frauds, especially in counties with minimal resources. Again, congrats!

Congratulations 🍾
Who’s going to ask what rate it was at
Why 6.85%? If you’re paying off now, assuming 15 years term mortgage, you bought the house around 2011? Why didn’t you refi post-COVID when rates dropped to 2.25%?
Congrats OP!
How exciting! I hope you're able to get it paid off as soon as you hope. That will be such a nice way to free up some income to start investing more.
Great job
Congrats!
Congrats
Congrats! That milestone feels SO good! Spouse and I made a special occasion — took the day off work to make the payoff payment in person, went out to celebrate.
LOVE THIS IDEA 👏🏻
Congrats!! I paid mine off a few years ago when I was about your same age. You may have the crowd that says "you could have made more in the market, what's your interest rate, etc." but there is a huge psychological "thing" to having no mortgage. Every penny I may have missed is worth it to me. Now if we could get rid of property taxes...
If you’re paying off a home now you likely had a low interest rate and paying off low interest debt faster than you need to isn’t really the wisest use of capital. It’s more of an emotional decision to have peace of mind than a financial one that positions you best for early retirement.
Congrats still.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment! We actually are at a almost 7% interest rate so I feel good about this strategy, but I am totally open to other thoughts!
