Are patent agent hour requirements generally the same as an associate?

I think it depends on the experience of the patent agent. Starting out my hourly expectations are about 400 less than the associates I work with.

like

Yeah agent hours are usually 200-400 hours less depending on circumstances

Adding another data point: my firm requires 1900 hours for prosecution associates and 1600 hours for agents.

My first firm didn't know what they were doing and had me at 1800 as an agent also enrolled in law school - same as associates not also going to class at night. Found our quickly that should have been more like 1500. Did that and they didn't push back.

Thank you so much for the responses!

One more point of clarification if I may: Efficiency. I realize this is a point of emphasis for patent agents but I am a little fuzzy. Assuming all hours are legitimately billable, two attorneys both bill X hours, the efficient attorney will get more done, but both will have billed X hours.

I’m a 4th year patent agent (but identify on here as an associate for increased anon). Efficiency only matters in terms of how much time is cut by the billing partner. For example, say budget is $10,000 to draft patent application. Also say the patent agent rate is $300/hr and the associate rate is $500/hr. The patent agent will have 33.3 hours to complete the job while the associate only gets 20 hours to complete the SAME job. If the patent agent completes the job in 33.3 hours- no time should be cut and this translates to 100% efficiency. If the associate struggled and completed it in 25 hours, some time will be cut reducing their efficiency. Some time cut is expected but you want to keep it in check. Generally I’ve been told to try to limit it to 5% cut (or 95% efficiency over the year).

I got a decent deal on a small 1 bed in a luxury building (hell’s kitc). Should I do a 12 month lease or 24m?

Got the rent negotiated to under 3k + free amenities for a year (gym, pool, etc.). I’m afraid rent will atleast go back to the original price (+5%) and then some. The building has some sort of rent control but that’s predicted to go away in less than 1 year as per the lease. The legal rent limit is way higher.

Would love some perspective on renewal experience after 1 year. TIA.

Additional Posts in Patent Prosecution

In prosecution, if a patent attorney does not try to remove prior art cited by an examiner (eg a 130 affidavit to assert an exception under102(b)(1)(A)), but instead makes arguments to overcome the art, may the attorney made an admission that bars removing the art later in prosecution. Just received such a transfer case, looking for options.
