Are people really hiring? I’ve been applying for a job since January 2025 and not a single call or interview. I need a job so desperately.

I used a recruiter and really had to lower my salary expectations. Right now I am only getting paid a small amount more than my last position but I did end up at a really great company and I like everyone I work with! Good luck, it may take time but you’ll eventually find something.

Very encouraging. Thank you.

They are, it just depends on where you are living and how far are you willing to travel to get to work every day. Long ago, 2014, I took an intern job about an hour and half away just for the experience. Then after graduation, I was hired but the pay sucked terribly and many attorneys I interviewed a year later were shocked I took the position. I felt I had to because I had no other on the job experience as a paralegal and I needed the experience. I had to make sacrifices. But, back to your question, YES, people are hiring. Do not give up. Take another job, if you haven't already and keep searching for work as a paralegal. The doors will open, unfortunately, it takes time. As my science instructor always said, "Keep on Keepin' on."

I’m sorry to hear. I have been applying on LinkedIn and companies websites. Talking to friends and colleagues for referrals but still nothing. I’ve been adjusting my resume to match the jobs too.

I feel bad that you have been struggling for so long. It is frustrating and can be depressing for sure! My question is for anyone out there, including the employers. What is the average time from application to phone call or interview? I have had a couple of email responses, but I think some of them are just automated. I am going to state this for all of us paralegals out there that are looking, WE ARE A CATCH! You will not be sorry to call and talk to us about what we offer. Sometimes selling yourself means being able to speak to someone about you, the job, and what you can do for the firm! I have a great personality, am a team player, and work hard because I love being a paralegal. Give us a chance, you won't be sorry!

Ugh! I am in a similar boat. The job market has not been easy to navigate AT ALL. I've had a couple interviews, but no luck finding a permanent position just yet. How are you applying? And are you adjusting your resumes/cover letters when you do? I'd even consider talking with old colleagues. That's what I recently started doing. Just hoping one will turn into a solid lead.

Have you considered going door to door in the businesses and physically handing them your resume? I did that. I was exhausted and in pain at the end of the day but, kept on. Try with your City, Chamber of Commerce, School District, law firms first, then go from business to business to business. It is a lot of walking, stepping into your vehicle and getting out of your vehicle. There will pop up a temporary position until a better one comes along. The job hunt is literally a job with NO pay.

Absolutely. Right now the market is in tremendous flux but there is plenty of opportunity. I know many firms hiring. There has been a massive shift from Covid, to post covid, and now post post covid.

What market are you in? What are you looking for in the role?

Comp financial’s have changed as others have said, as has wfh versus hybrid versus in office.

From what I hear many firms are moving away from fully remote. Ive heard stories where they offer full remote and pull it away a week after starting date.

Also an issue that is pretty widespread among smaller to medium firms is “mistitling”. A lot of people in the space have been given titles by firms that don’t spend the time or effort to research titles so this results in confusion in the marketplace where people have titles that don’t align with what the actual role does or requires skills/experience wise.

like

A lot to unpack in your helpful comment, but how did you get freelancing and how do you get work from firms?

You must work with a recruiting agency.

I’ve been. They keep saying “employer says you aren’t a good fit” or “you are overqualified.” It’s frustrating.
