My feeling has always been that it's about silent layoffs. I can't find any other reasons. Especially for global teams....
I agree with this answer. There is no logical or practical reason I need to be in the office just so I can meet with my teams around the world.
The odd thing is that senior executives are exempt from this mandatory requirement. We have an executive that is totally remote and this doesn't make sense.
Remote is not dead, but it is definitely more selective now. Many companies are pushing in office for control, culture, and visibility, even when teams are already distributed. In most cases it is less about productivity and more about leadership preference and real estate decisions.
