It takes a bit to get used to Deloitte. There is a certain intangible “navigating the firm” aspects which are very real. I struggled with those when I joined and it took me couple of years to understand, feel a sense of belonging and pivot. But once you do, you’ll realize that there is much humanity behind the seemingly rigid processes and why people spend their whole careers here. As a new experienced hire, this is all I would say:
1) Be patient with yourself and give yourself 2-3 years to figure out the firm
2) if you decide that’s too long and this is not a fit, it doesn’t make you any lesser. Deloitte is not for everyone, and many are more successful elsewhere.
3) if you choose to stick it out, you won’t be all wrong.
4) be prepared to unlearn and relearn new ways of working
5) when you find good people, stick with them. And give before you expect.
You are a smart person figured this out quickly.
True D1, OP walked into the situation and figured it out before most folks get their bearings. Good for you, OP.
Let me explain the reasons. At D, unless you are campus recruit you will always be treated as external hire. That is the root cause of lack of sense of belonging amongst external hires.
That’s the breakdown. Got it from one of our all hands. Either way. Look around you, there aren’t that many who have been here since analyst.
There certainly a lot of folks who’s been here for a while. I’ve been here about 9 years.
What are the reasons this discrimination exists?
This is such a vicious circle right, being a victim of this to survive I may also join (be mindful about it) or form a community over a period of time and someone like me may feel the same because of this community few years down the line. Being inclusive and its emphasis is just propaganda. Power play!
SM1 you got lucky and met the right people most likely, I just dont have enough visibility to understand where I can make a difference. I can certainly assure you have tried to talk and talk and talk to get as much information but people here are too close knit or dont want to share information. Did meet a handful (2-3) people who are helpful but if that helps in making it any easier is what I Q myself about.
Same.
