Are there a disproportionate number of South Texas College of Law alumni who are partners at “elite” Texas-based mid-law firms, relative to the school's ranking? I am not referring to ID or Big law firms. STCL’s USNR ranking is among the worst in the country, yet many highly respected Texas based firms have more STCL partners than partners from higher ranked schools (i.e. Baylor, SMU, UH etc..) Good alumni network? Under ranked? Kudos to those partners- not trying to hate- just curious.

Do most firms start reporting years in September or January? Prior firm did an August year for counting hours and then another did January (both Amlaw 200). Looking at an Amlaw 100 to lateral in the fall (so trying to anticipate how much of the year I’ll have). I’ll ask what bonus/reporting year but just curious if most follow the same.

I wasn’t sure which bowl to solicit advice from so hoping to catch a bite here. I’m currently in ID. Of course, I want OUT! My interests are L&E and corporate. My options are 1) wait it out where I am in hopes to switch to L&E or 2) in house oil and gas industry transactional work. What would you do and why? I figured this bowl being specific to Texas would understand importance of oil and gas industry.
