Vinson’s brand is stronger in Houston. Spent decades as the top firm in Houston but is now being pushed by Kirkland and Sidley. Simpson’s brand is stronger nationwide but not as much as a major player in Houston.
Can speak as a V&E Corporate Associate: as a junior, I’ve had the chance to work on the sophistication and level of deals that I want (usually in the $500M to couple billion dollar range) and the people I work with are nice, smart people who are willing to help teach you. If you are interested in energy especially (whether renewables/clean tech or traditional), V&E is probably the way to go.
You’ll work hard, but that is part and parcel to any law firm. I’ll probably bill around 2000-2100 for context.
