Could be the Recruiter sucks at their job, could be they’re being told what to tell you from the leaders making the hiring decision. First isn’t a reflection on the company (though impacting their employer brand), the second is.
If I were you I’d follow up and explain the facts without blame, how you’re unclear because of it, and say you’d like a clear answer on timeline and available role(s) because you need to continue your search with other companies if there isn’t a near-term opportunity with them
If you’re truly a top candidate, this will light a fire under them to get their stuff together so they don’t lose you.
To which they replied after 3 days that it got filled already. I negotiated a bit on the second one on salary and title (I’ve been a manager for 2 years and this is an associate position in a no name company) and they told me they would get back and set up another meeting with the director for the new position to know more. Meeting never came through, recruiter disappeared saying she would call me by end of week 2 days ago but nothing (not the first time she is late communicating and probably this is the reason why they filled the other position while I was waiting for answers). At this point I feel like this second role might also no longer be available but I feel this is insane since I had great feedback after all interviews and was told 2 people where fighting over who got to hire me..
Also feels very weird about recruiter selling the second one as more senior when it turns out it’s more junior, really feels like they are trying to fool me
it can also be due to someone applying internally. more frequent that what we think. which push you out.
I don’t know if this company was 1st on your bucket list, but I would go for another one.
Before, send an very short email thanking them for the interviews (even if it was a no-if you like the company, don’t burn bridges. you know how it went so next time you will be better prepared) and let them know that if another opportunity for your profile they can think of you
Next look for the other companies in your bucket list. Move on because nobody will wait for you.
