Have you had/do you have student loan debt? Do you live alone? Are you in a HCOL area? Are you a woman with excessive appearance upkeep requirements as a result of societal pressure just to feel accepted? Did you grow up with friends and family that have experience navigating wealth building under capitalism? I really don’t know what could be the issue.
Continue doing what you are. The rule of thumb is to have worth of 6 months savings of your monthly basic expenses, like mortgage, loans and utilities bills. Once you have that saved up, you can loosen up a bit. :)
Sounds like there is a little worrying in your post. Worrying doesn't help anything. Do you have a budget? If not, set one and fine tune it as more data comes in.
No spouse / kids...:
1. Pay off all non-mort debts
2. Save 6 months of living expenses in liquid assets
3. Pay off mortgage
4. Be generous with your abundance
