Agree the price just isn’t worth it anymore. I really wanted a bottega bag but for $4,900…. I just can’t. I’ve pivoted to vintage bags. Still get to enjoy luxury and half the cost. I got a used rolex and the original owner was the wife of a guy who won the masters so now I like to think about where the bag or item has been in the world before it was mine. 😂
I spend on luxury experiences, and not so much on luxury goods anymore which I’ve mostly always received as gifts (from family) anyway
Agreed - I spend a lot more on experiences than goods.
I still spend on luxury but I’ve moved away from handbags and items with logos and appreciate the quality they put into nice boots, shoes, scarves and clothing like suits. Handbags seem to be the most overpriced and garish items while you can find some great quality and understated pieces in other departments of luxury retailers.
In the past yes, before kids and when I used to work in office in Manhattan. Now I have all the bags I want (one Chanel, one Prada, a couple LV), designer shoes that are not comfortable, and also I don’t even use them since I’m always worried about my kids getting juice or dirty fingers on them. Also I have a fully remote role now. So because there is no utility in them, I don’t have any desire to buy them. Instead I spend my $$ on comfort and trips. Frequent massages, nails done, one on one trips with each kid, girls trip, trips with the hubby, etc. also spend a lot of lululemon lol so I look good in my barre classes, school events, and just lounging around the house so hubby can admire the body I pay a lot to maintain LOL
I’ve been collecting luxury bags/goods as treats for myself but agree that I just don’t see the value in it anymore.. truly feel like I have everything I need. Takes the enjoyment out of treating myself lol
I’ve kind of turned against the luxury market. Lots of middle/upper middle class people spending thousands of their hard earned money to make another multimillionaire/billionaire even richer for a bag that cost them like $50 to make. I also don’t find many styles are truly “timeless” where you’ll want to wear the item for decades. Perhaps if I was ever rich enough where $5k isn’t a huge splurge and there was a really unique design I liked, I’d consider, but otherwise I’ve been sticking to more midrange brands.
I’ve definitely spent on certain brands in the past. I thought I’d splurge once I made MD, but I’m not feeling any of the luxury bags any more. I don’t like the styles and textures any more. I like the style and look of some smaller brands like Polène.
I’d rather spend that money on jewelry and if I buy a designer bag it is secondhand.
I only spent on luxury brands when I barely had the money to do it. Now that i’m making enough to buy a new bag each week I don’t see the point. My goal before was to flaunt my so called “wealth” but i’d rather have a wealth of experiences now
No, I’m trying to move towards treating myself with experiences and self care (vacations, dining, massages, etc.) rather than expensive goods. The older I get, I realize stuff won’t bring me happiness, but I get a lot of joy out of experiences. I can still find high quality clothing/bags without the ridiculous markup of “luxury” items. You’re really just paying to wear a name brand.
I used to always treat myself to a new handbag or pair of shoes if I got a new job, and/or achieved a big accomplishment. However I paid $3K for a YSL bag when I started my last job and I’m sad to admit the bag is still in the box wrapped up and I haven’t worn it once in the year I’ve had it 😩 maybe I’ll wear it for the holidays lol.
Instead I wear my beloved Black-owned Brandon Blackwood handbag almost everyday lol. So yes moving on from big designer brands moving forward and focusing on quality and what I like! I do plan to buy myself a Coach handbag (nostalgic vibes from college) or another Brandon Blackwood style for Christmas though…
Not the mainstream ones so much, I’m more drawn to the smaller independent luxury brands that aren’t as well known yet.
agree, but the ones i like are still expensive AF. the row is quietly so sophisticated.

If I see something I like I buy it. Overthinking about the brand etc is a killer of joy. I was in Spain last week and bought a lovely Dior bag. That bag will replace other small bags and will become my new go to, daily bag.
Many people buy fancy things to compete with others , my only competition is the mirror.
I like my vintage Chanel bag, a souvenir from a Paris thrift store, but probably won’t be getting another one. I’d much rather buy a bag and luggage collection from a leather artisan.
I can’t help but judge others when I see someone wearing an overpriced bag.
A year ago this bowl was full of women bragging about their long awaited Hermes appointments. This thread is making me feel a bag crash is coming.
