Maybe you could bring your perspective to the defense team in a way that results in more justice than if you weren’t on the team
I would rather quit practicing than do employment defense. I can't ethically do that job.
By following the legal standard for bias and prejudice in the workplace. Separate your past experiences from the case in front of you to provide the best counsel to your clients. If you’re struggling with that, maybe switch to plaintiff side.
A Black partner specially stirred me away from that group for the reasons you listed. She even went as far as to say employment defense groups pressure us to join so the employee sees a “friendly face” on the other side…
Yup. It’s also to parade us in front of judges, juries, and employer/clients. It’s like saying, “if the black lawyer is defending the company and saying the employee is making it all up, well then there must not be any real discrimination happening.”
