Asked my firm if I could move to a different office as my wife’s job is being eliminated a she won’t be able to get another one in her field in our current market. Requested to move to an office in a different state, but where my PG doesn’t have partners/associates. Would need to fly back frequently as our clients demand in person meetings only.

Was told the answer coming back in a few days would likely be no, so we are looking into going long distance but there would be no set end date.

I've done long distance (SF/LA) for a year. Would fly out Monday AM, then back either Thurs night or sometimes Friday afternoon.

Professionally, I soared. Personally, my relationship suffered.

You miss the little moments that make up a relationship. You get used to being apart in the evenings, which can be a dangerous place for a relationship. Both of you are unhappy the night before you leave because you know what's coming.

Fortunately, after a year, Covid happened and I've been primarily WFH since, so no need to deal with that situation anymore.

I wouldn't personally recommend it. But I do know a couple who's done NYC/Luxembourg for 10+ years, and they've made it work, so YMMV.

Cont. will likely downsize the home we have in this market and I’ll rent a small apartment while renting the larger place in the new market. Anyone else done or doing something similar? Tried finding a job in the other market but most firms there don’t pay market in my practice so they did not believe me when I said I would be ok with a pay cut. Would likely fly to live in the new market for 2 weeks, then back to the original market for 2 weeks and so on.

A2, so provide it if you have any and otherwise don’t

Lateral that just went through first bonus season with the firm. Not in a major market but workload is comparable to major markets. Surprised at how low the bonus was. I received solid reviews and my annualized hours were well above the requirement. Should I approach anyone about this? Wondering if it is worth addressing or if it could compromise my standing. Thanks in advance!

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other. I cry every day and constantly am made to feel stupid for not understanding the highly technical (cont.)
