At a 9am mediation. Client never shows despite multiple calls and emails confirming. I finally get a hold of them and they say they thought it was tomorrow and will be an hour late. Dealing with our own clients is for sure the worst part of PI.

This is challenging. But perhaps the client is experiencing brain fog or otherwise having cognitive difficulties. This is common for trauma survivors.

I hope the injury was relatively minor! But even this incident could be used to support the injury/harm case.

I was in court for a minor settlement. Client, despite being reminded several times of the court date, no showed. I called the client in front of the judge, woke her up, and she said she had other things to do that day so maybe tomorrow. Ah, fun times.

I don’t let my clients come to mediation.

I wish I could do that, but they’d never agree to the settlement amount. They need to hear the problems of their case from the mediator, particularly when it sucks.

In an auto accident trial, can you inform the jury in any way that the at-fault driver had insurance? I have a hard time believing a jury would award 7-figure damages if they thought the little old lady defendant had to personally pay. I’m just starting to do PI on the side by myself at my firm, so this is probably a very dumb and obvious question.

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??

I know this is a broad question but how much should a 3 year PI attorney going into their 4th year make approx. I’m in Chicago, a range is fine too.
