At my new job, and my hours are 7:30 to 4:30 with only a half-hour lunch break. I don't mean to sound ungrateful and im looking forward to this new opportunity. But I've never had such a short break before! Its an hour a day more then what i do now. I'm not sure it's going to be enough time to recharge. How long do you get for your break and what hours do you do?

Thanks 😊

I work the same hours and take the same amount of break. However, I work Monday - Thursday, then get off at noon on Friday.

Prior to this company, I primarily worked in manufacturing. I would get there at 6:30 am and work until 5:30 pm, with a one hour lunch. I made sure all three shifts were covered. It was hard to adjust to the new schedule I have now, but I am soi much happier. I love the work/life balance.

That's long. It's probably like you say, just a case it getting used to it. It will be the new norm.

9-5. 1 hour lunch break if schedule permits. And 2 15s

And 2 breaks. That sounds great!

I don't blame you, I wouldn't be happy about that either. I work the standard 9-5 with an hour for lunch at noon.

Its a 42 hour week! I'm worried because I ca get a short attention span sometimes.

I am 9-6 with an hour lunch. I’ve had 30-minute lunches, and you kind of get used to it all after a while. Hoping the new job is going well!

Thank you! I started 15th September. I've was up last night worrying about it.

Assuming you’re in the US, some states mandate a rest break, depending on length of shift, for non-exempt employees.

I’m in the UK and I’m sure we do have a policy / rule that after so many hours you have to legally take a break - not sure on the actual hours though.

That’s an 8 1/2 hour work day so you should be getting OT based on your state’s regulations. If you are an exempt employee, I find it odd that they are holding you to a defined lunch period.

I totally get where you are coming from. A half-hour flies by before you even feel settled, especially if you need to grab food and clear your head. I get half hour for lunch in a 9 to 5.

I normally got for a 30 min power walk. I won't have time to do that. I hope it's more chilled then what the hours suggest.

Are they a relaxed company? Can you not have mini breaks in between? Obviously depends how you work and the nature of the company but mine is very relaxed to the point that as long as you’ve not gone out for say 2 hours it’s no issue.

Yea hopefully. I won't know until I start. They seemed pretty chill at the interview.

You get a lunch break?! lol no seriously if your used to an hour, it will take some time to adjust but it will be fine.

Haha I feel you , I can’t remember the last time I had 1/2 hour and I technically have an hour unpaid. Eat and work and chat is my break🤣

My last job was 30 minutes and I loved it. Sometimes there was not enough time and that was ok too since time went faster and I could get out quicker. Trust me taking too much also makes for you to want not to go back at all. You’re do fine and congrats. Been on the job hunt for 3 weeks and it’s hard out here so enjoy it within time you’re get use to it

I joined a new team and have noticed something off with my Director over the last months (slurring speech, no show to calls or even full days of work). I finally asked a colleague about it today because I’m concerned about my Director. She confirmed that she’s noticed the same over the last few years, but no one ever says anything. In confidence she told me she can often smell alcohol. How can I help? I feel helpless. I’ve already lost someone to addiction and I can’t ignore this. Any advice?

Looking to get into SaaS sales but my experience is in construction and fine furniture (I was a sales manager and was able to lead my team of 4 people to consistently hit 450k monthly targets). I did that for almost 2 years before making the switch. I miss sales, though. Does anyone have any connections to companies looking? I have also considered a sales analyst role considering that I am moderately versed in Salesforce and have worked both the customer facing and sales generating side. TIA!
