This is one of the worst parts about the job to me. I am completely addicted to doom scrolling and it's impossible to break because it is something I am required to do during the day. I feel like I spend very little time in the real world anymore, and all of my waking hours just staring at a screen
We’re all hooked. It’s also part of our job to stay informed and up to date on what’s going on around us so it’s not a bad habit to have…
Yep, it's part of my workaholic tendencies. Plus, I feel like I'm always trying to make industry connections and find new journalists to work with. It's almost an addiction at a certain point, and I'm trying to get better about it, but it's tough.
I find it next to impossible. I used to write about reality TV for a living and even after the department closed, I could not stop watching the same shows and switch off from mentally pitching. I have had to find new hobbies that is non internet/ non social media.
I get stuck in that loop too. I tell myself it is “research” but really it is just endless scrolling. What helps me is deleting the apps after work and only using desktop during hours. Otherwise, I never switch off
I tell myself it is “for work” too, but then i realise i am doom-scrolling headlines i already read. For me the only way to stop is to log out after hours. Do you manage to separate work scroll from personal scroll?
I found myself doing this when I got home, eventually I realised and had to set myself strict boundaries where I do activities away from my phone so I can truly distance from work
