I like your counters. You should absolutely counter, and let them respond. In this market , it might be aggressive but you have nothing to loose. If you really want this job, then stay flexible as you counter. Communicate that sentiment. That said, I wouldn’t leave Google to go to a Bank. But the money is hard to pass up on
Wells Fargo does like to write big checks! My brother is at Google and in his org he was told that they would be happy to welcome him back with open arms if he left to try something new for a year or so. That did turn out to be the case, he left to go to a start up and then ended up going back to his old department, but interviewing for a higher level. If you think that this would be possible for you too, then you should seriously consider it, especially if WF does negotiate with you on your counters. While I am in a different line of business and I’m not sure how it works everywhere, my bonus percentage really only applied for the first year, it went down significantly in year two.
Having to relocate is a big ask, is there a separate relocation package or is this part of the signon? If you have much of a life set up for yourself in NYC, I’d go Charlotte as it’s closer, and Dallas summers are unbearable.
I am very curious, though, what is your current non-tech role? I always search the job listings for non-rules and never quite find anything that’s a match, at least in New York.
It depends on what you’re looking for
